Korean mother and a French-Russian father, who worked in the city as a consul
for the French government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. The name was
chosen by her parents "Pom" due to the fact that it's identical in
pronunciation to Korean words for "spring" as well as
"tiger". Klementieff was in Canada for one year before her family
travelled extensively due to her father's job. Before making the move to France
the family lived in Japan and also on the Ivory Coast. Klementieff lost her
father to cancer at age five. Her mother was also diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Klementieff was raised in France by her aunt and uncle paternal. Her uncle, who
she described in her own words as "like her first father," died on
Klementieff’s 18th birthday. The older brother of her committed suicide seven
years later. The second occasion, it occurred on her 25th. Klementieff was a
student at law school for a short time after the death of her uncle in order to
please her aunt, but did not find the academic option appealing. Also, she
worked as an waitress in France as well as a salesperson. Her first acting
experience was at age 19 in the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. She was
just a few months into studying when she was awarded the competition to be a
part of the theater that provided her two years of class with the top teachers
in the school. The first role she had in professional acting was the French
independent film Apres lui (2007), acting as the stepdaughter in the film of
the main character which was played by Catherine Deneuve. Three days were spent
filming her scenes. The plan was for Klementieff to push another person down a
set staircase, but she accidentally fell to the ground. Gael Mostl kept the
shot in the final film. Loup (2009) which is which is a French film about the
Siberian reindeer herders was her first major part. Klementieff was filming in
an isolated camp, which was a few hours from the nearest village. There,
temperatures plunged to zero.
